Jenny Marie (Mendenhall) Edgar |
||||||||
| Jenny was born in 1946 in Baker, Baker Co., Oregon, to Una Val Mendenhall and Ina Frances Morin. However, just a few years after her birth, Jenny's mother and father were divorced. Then, when Jenny was about four (4) years old, her mother married Russell Stanley Castleberry. Russ Castleberry loved Jenny very much and raised her as his own daughter. The family moved from Oregon to Hayward, California, where Jenny grew up. In 1962, Jenny's family moved from Hayward, California to Monroe, Oregon. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1964 where she was very active in student life including serving as a high school cheerleader. As an honor student and "Most Likely to Succeed", Jenny received a full scholarship to Oregon State University in Corvalis. However, she only attended one full year at OSU and then elected to return home and work in Harrisburg where her family had recently relocated. Then in 1967, Jenny's life long friend (Georgia Pease) from Hayward, California, announced her planned marriage to Dennis Stewart and invited Jenny to come for the wedding. During her visit to California for the wedding, Jenny was invited/encouraged to stay and find work in the local area. She found a place to stay with the wife of a close friend of mine (while he was in Viet Nam), and she found work as an Executive Secretary to Keith Garner the General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Palo Alto, California. (Keith also served as the Regional Representative of the Twelve Apostles for the San Francisco Bay Area). Apparently, Jenny dated a few people before I met her, but once we met (and worked out the many personality adjustments) and fell in love, we set a date (15 April 1969) and were married and sealed in the Oakland California Temple. Our honeymoon was short lived, however. Four (4) days after our wedding I was on a flight (alone) to London, England. While in England, I took a second job to earn extra money for Jenny's flight; and, I found a cute little cottage in Earith, Huntingdonshire, England. On May 17th, Jenny joined me in England and we spent the first four (4) years of our life together in jolly old England. Jenny and I were married for a wonderful 14 years and 51 weeks before her sudden and untimely death on 8 April 1984 at Ramstein AB, West Germany. She loved me and I loved her. She followed me around the world on my several Air Forces assignments. She gave birth to our seven (7) wonderful children (although she always wanted to have eight). Throughout our marriage, Jenny was a stay-at-home Mom caring for our children. In addition to caring for the children, she cared for me. She followed me when I had to move to England; she supported me while I was away for a year serving in the Viet Nam War; she followed me again back to Europe; and, when I decided to get out of the service and go back to the university, she continued to support me and care for the needs of our children while I studied. Jenny was always a loving mother, a faithful wife, and loving companion. And, she is missed. |
